Thank you for contributing to the success and degree progress of UC Merced students through your participation in Summer Session. As you turn your attention to planning for Summer Session 2016 please consider the following tips and strategies:

Enrollment in Summer Session consistently demonstrates students will enroll in courses that are required by their major and/or fulfill graduation requirements.

Give particular consideration to courses that support large majors or are service courses for multiple majors*.

Concentrate on courses with high or unmet demand during the academic year, including courses offered only in the fall. Courses that meet demand or have space available during the academic year are not as likely to have high demand in the summer.

Think about Session A primarily for continuing, Junior and Senior, UC Merced students. Save lower division and particularly useful upper-division transfer-student courses for Sessions B and C. Session A begins before visiting students and matriculating students are able to attend.

Sequence courses so students can take a prerequisite course in Session A and move on to the next class in the sequence in Session C. This improves time-to-degree by enabling students to take a one year course sequence in one summer.

Offer a greater number of seats in high-demand courses instead of offering a greater quantity of courses with lower demonstrated demand. This mitigates the impact of late drops and leads to fewer course cancellations due to low enrollment.
